If you've got the face, you can shave your head. I find this looks very sexy and feminine on african american women.

There are magazines in the drugstore or Walmart that deal specifically with African American hair and what's in also how to create the styles. Check them out.

Tell your mom u can do whuteva u want with your hair. If u dont want to style it, then dont. Plus, just google hairstyles. Seventeen has great ideas on thier site, I use em a lot for occasions.

I too, have extremely thick hair that is mid-back length. My mom bugged me all through my high school years also. Whenever you shampoo your hair be sure to use a good follow-up conditioner, then try towel drying it before parting it in to sections. After which spray each section with oil sheen and blow dry. You will find that after repeating this process it its easier to create your own styles or obtain styles from pictures. Try flat ironing it and using hair accessories ( headbands, butterfly clips, etc. ) to compliment your apparel. Remember, having longer thicker hair requires shampooing more often. If you like the bun or pouf, leave a bang for some nice tresses. You should feel proud to have maintained your hair to the length it is. I recently started using pantene pro-v for women of color. But I still love Olive Oil oil sheen. It gives you hair that not so dull look. I believe healthy well maintained hair is better than the style. But try keeping mom happy, its the only one you'll get!!!
